    Update time guys,

Since last time I posted. The car sat in the shed as it developed a bottom end knock. So after saving money for a while finally got the engine rebuilt and tuned 285kw

Still trying to get the car fully sorted atm. Having problems with the 25% underdriven pully / Engine temps.

Will post dyna sheet/Engine specs later.

Hey mate. Been a while since I’ve been on here. Engine is looking great!

Just wondering how the steering is with the ls pump to vn style rack? Is it way too light?

    Cheers.

Since the car passed I decided it deserved a clean and polish.

VRsenator065- The PWR issue was quite disappointing, It never got hot but each time I drove it I would get a small puddle of coolant under the cap area.  I contacted PWR told them about my problem and decided to try another cap.

After a few weeks with the same problem so I pressure tested the system to find it wasn’t holding pressure. At this stage I removed it and sent it back to PWR. They did all there tests and told me it was their error when making it.

two and a half weeks later I get a new radiator with a new PWR cap. I install it and bleed the system as normal ready to drive to work on Monday only to find coolant everywhere. I then checked the cap AGAIN to find it wasn’t holding pressure. so I went and got a triden lock tab cap and no problem since.

First and Last time for me using PWR

    Hey everyone,

Now 100% passed and Legal. Such a run around to get passed but it was all worth it.

TUFGMH – I have been looking around at the in tank pump setups and I think it is the way I will go in the end.  simular to what you have done, this one was a red vh in street commodore last month

TUF GMH, I used the VT-VZ canister as well, due to it being a nicer shape to mount. I was thinking to putting it under the car, or under one of the guards. But the engineer wanted it as high was it could be. so I ended up mounting it in the boot. pretty much straight above the filter.

Still not quite through engineering yet, but the car is out of action for a while. Having a few cooling issues with the PWR radiator, I have sent it back and am awaiting an answer in regards to warranty. hopefully wont take to long. I miss driving it already :disappointed:

    Coming together mate, looks great.

sucks that you needed to cut the radiator support, I had the same problem with my pwr radiator, when I ordered mine it came with schematics, and I found it wasn’t within the specs. ( which made the rad sit lower, the fan contacted in the same spot as yours) sent it back, and now sits great.

As for the exhaust in hindsight a single system is the way to go. it gets very busy with lines mufflers etc.

    look forward to more progress.

Cheers for the replies and the positive comments guys!

Seat belts went in nicely, a mate ended up giving me a set and bolted straight in.

Didn’t make up the bash plate for the fuel tank. after measuring I found that I only needed to raise the rear of the car 2 cm to pass. So another easy fix.

So its all down to the exhaust, Yeah the problem is on the collector 4 into 2 part which is made to slide off.  it sits too close to the chassis, brake line, and vapour line from the canister (old fuel line).  Off to the exhaust shop tomorrow to see what he thinks.

Then hopefully next week back to the engineer,

    hey guys,

Had the engineering inspection this week. unfortunately failed on a couple of small issues,

Few exhaust issues with lines to close (I thought if you can fit your finger in between it would be ok).  I have since taken it back to the exhaust shop and the cant bend it anymore. So question is what is the best way to run the brake line to the rear. At the moment it is in the original position and it has clearance problems on the drives side inner chassis rail.

Next issue is that my car being a base model means it didn’t come out with rear retractable seat belts, Which I have been told is a must. After looking on ebay/Gumtree I didn’t see any to buy. If anyone knows were I can get a set please let me know.

Lastly I have put a vn long range tank into the vh, which sits within 200mm of the gound, so I am required to make up a bash plate.

All up I am pretty happy with engineering, I feel like everything I have failed on could be improved anyway. so well worth getting it done.

any tips or help is appreciated cheers.

    hey all,

Long time with no update so I thought I would share were I am up to.

I have clocked up 400km since swapping engine. and I cant be happier that I decided to do the conversion, its a whole new car to drive!

First few things to mention so far,

3.9 diff gears for this conversion I believe is prefect, so many people say its too high and just as many say its too low. but I find that it is a happy medium.

I decided to go the ultimate street shifter, still early days having only gone 400km, but its not how I expected it would feel. clunky would be the best way to describe it. Anyone else used it and have any thoughts?

anyway next on the To-Do list is engineering, mostly I am pretty sure it will go through easily, once I quite it down a lot.  hopefully pass in the new month or two.

Had quite a long discussion with the engineer today, And very happy with his work so far. mostly all general things too look out for while building a car to make the final inspection easier.

Cheers VRSenator065 for the info on the power steering lines. He was happy with the braid also so I will be doing very simular.

Cooling system now all finished, PWR rad powder coated black (which wasn’t made to spec so had to be returned), Spal thermo fan, areoflow 360 degree swivel thermostat which made the hoses a lot easier to match up.

    Another Update,

Exhaust done looks nice and neat. Went 2 1/2 inch pipe with three mufflers and Cats. (which I have now been told I do not need as my car is 83 model) pipes are over the diff and nicely out of the way. A few things I will change down the track but overall happy for now.

Cheers rayray07, Any pic of how your conversion is going?

I am still undecided what type of rims I will get. I am quite liking the wolf in sheep clothing. especially as it will be my daily as soon as it is all engineered.

    Hey mate.

Just looking at your early posts. At your powersteering lines. As i am wonting to know about the braided lines you used. Are they normal -6 with stainless braid or special lines. Was there any restrictor needed. Was the engineer happy with it. Any help would be great. Cheers

installed the long range fuel tank, pwr radiator,

just dropped off to the exhaust shop to get a system built. :-)

Thanks for the Info capssy and dave,

I have been looking into it further looks like Vl pedals $250 and slave $150 that’s about half the price of the mal wood set-up

will call mal wood to find out about the Vt piston upgrade.

What radiator are you guys both running?
