Loving the look of this thing! Can’t put my finger on exactly what sets it off..

Hopefully you can get the trans sorted and get your tune done soon!

Be interested to see what he recons for the clutch pack & mods. IJ seems to be able to get one to hold together (I couldn’t) They just seem to be a very hit and miss kinda deal, some make them last, but some (like me) get a few 100 k’s and they let go. Trouble is its basically box out every time there is an issue and that starts to build up the $$ and lose its humorous side very quickly…

Yeah same here. Being a trans specialist I hope that he can fix it and that will be the last of the problems. A mate of mine had a Jatco built by him for his RX4  drag car and has had customers trans done by him too, so he recommended him.

Wow, you must have some patience then.Yeah, Michael seemed like a great guy and knew what he was talking about. To have quite few people recommend him speaks volumes I think.

I probably wouldn’t haven’t gone past one, lol. Yeah definitely need to organise something, it will be after my trans is fixed though. If not I’ll find a car worthy of taking out.

Thanks mate. I love the look of it too. Could probably make it a bit lower (maybe an 1/2 inch-1 inch) but it doesn’t get much attention from the cops and fingers crossed it stays like that. Otherwise I will have to spend a shit load of money on it and it will sit in the shed for a long time.

Not sure when I’ll book it in to get fixed but hopefully soon. The next hardest part is getting it tuned again, Leon is a hard man to get a hold of, but he knows his shit.

Also bought some spare centre caps off Gumtree. They were a bit expensive, but what price can you put on something that doesn’t get put up for sale that often. Now the 2 spare wheels I have, will have centre caps too. Should see about getting them reproduced in billet.

Looks great as it is mate. Like you say, good not to get the wrong sort of attention. I hear you about spares. You get what you can while you can!

After speaking to a few more people regarding my transmission issue it looks like I am better off getting the trans properly rebuilt. This will cost around the $3k-$3500 roughly (probably over quoting a little). Also got recommended to use Norwood’s as Gary suggested which is closer for me than MV’s.

From what I have been told and a quick diagnosis of my problem and what my trans is I will need a proper rebuilt including a new converter, new trans pan with temp sensor plus gauge and a good trans cooler with fan to keep me from having a repeat of these issues. It also got me thinking about the cost to convert to a manual trans.

Started a new thread to discuss it, so feel free to add your opinions and knowledge to it.

I just posted int he other thread, but personally I would get your rebuilt.  I reckon a manual swap makes sense if you are doing it all yourself at home in the shed, otherwise the labour is going to kill you…

Yeah leaning towards repairing the auto more than doing the conversion. Would love a manual but the cost blow out won’t be worth it I think.

I got bored today and started making a gauge holder. Need to cut the pocket out to get the gauges recessed in a bit so I can close the lid. Just made a cardboard template for now, not sure what material to use to make it yet.

Well, I actually have two of those statesman surrounds that I bought when I was thinking of putting one in mine that I didn’t end up using..  I could always have a play around and design up something in CAD and 3D print it, if you want to be the guinea pig?  Would take some time to get it right though?

Would love to be a guinea pig. I had thought of 3D printing but wasn’t sure on the limitations. This is a spare one I bought ages ago, I want to fit a single din stereo with a double din front and delete the bottom pocket. Not in a rush to do that yet though.

    Similar to this

The gauges only just fit. Need to cut the pocket a bit to get them to fit though. They come with a threaded collar but to fit these in that spot they will have to be a tight fit into the holder. Needs to be a press fit and recessed enough for the door to shut to get the result I am after. Plus to the right of the volt gauge I plan on putting a switch or two for fans of other stuff. Can always cut the holes later.

Hey mate just had a bit of a quick stuff around.  So I reckon the idea would be to cover it in this suede or something.  I did this before reading your reply so didn’t realize you wanted switches as well.  Can you do me a favor and accurately measure your gauges, I need to know the body size, the size and depth of the bezel etc etc, the more dimensions and greater the accuracy the better.  It is very very rough right now, I need to 3D model the gauges and sit them in there so I can check the clearance on the lid, better still would be if you could drop them off to me?

Looks awesome. That panel will need to be set back a bit further so the lid can close. I can drop the gauge/s off if you want or measure up. What ever is easier for you.

Also will need access to the screws at the top left and right of the pocket too. Unless the panel can be removed.

Thanks, yes it will sit deeper I just did the ocd drafter thing and made the rectangular cut out around the latch a bees dick too small, so it wont quite fit over it so it cant push down.  The screw holes you can see each end are designed to match up with the surround retaining holes, I think I now have them positioned right so I have made a larger diameter counter bore for the screw heads.  I am printing another prototype now, with these sort of complex shapes you really have to just gradually refine as you go.  Luckily i have the 3D CAD on my PC here at home so I am able to tweak it and try it.  It takes almost 2 hours to print though so it a bit laborious.  If you could drop off the gauges or get them to me at work would be great, and maybe if you pick the switches you want to use I can make it suit them from the get go.

Yeah I can only imagine the work involved to get this to the current stage. Even small changes would require a bit of effort. I’ll bring down my gauges, surround and switches I want to use too. Not sure how many switches I want to put in place though. Maybe 2 or 3 small ones in that spot, that’s why I thought leaving them out until I decide. I am in no rush to get this sorted as it will take some time to get it installed and wired up. I appreciate your help with this, definitely easier printing it than having to bend and fold it up.

Once perfected you could probably have a market for them via ebay or the likes. Even variations for the different model VR/VS consoles. I was trying to fill in this area on a exec console using a mould made of fibreglass to later fit 4 gauges. But unfortunately it is to time consuming & hard to get a neat & tidy look. But funny enough I was later thinking of 3d printing or injection moulding.

    Cheers
