Hey all, thanks for your patience. I believe the issue is resolved now.

Basically we renewed the certificate a week ago and the host stated they would install it since I was in the midst of moving to the UK! Unfortunately it seems they didn’t do so correctly but I didn’t think to check – anyway I’ve now reinstalled it myself and as far as I can see it is working for me. Shouldn’t be any issues until at least October 2020!

    Thanks  again!

Whether or not to allow direct uploads was something we considered early on and felt was just impossible. We did try to compromise and allow people to attach uploads to their posts, within a certain size. I know its not an ideal feature but any larger than that and I doubt our server would keep up. The cost of upgrading to a server that could store the fullsize pics + retain a decent user speed would just be prohibitive as it wouldnt be a once off cost but an ongoing one. Of course we could try to ‘crowdfund’ it but we’d need a lot of money to keep it going for many years which is the plan!

I also have concerns about allowing people to upload their own photos as a free for all. One thing that is not well known here is that our spam filters have blocked over 50,000 spam bots and users. Nonetheless a few do slip through the cracks – it would only take a couple to upload large files onto our server to crash it, or illegal/copyrighted/inappropriate stuff which tbh is a headache I don’t want to deal with!  That is why I have made the decision to keep such a tight rein on photo uploads, as have most other forums.

We do everything we can to have good functionality here on the forum but we are working with limited resources which we try to be honest and transparent about so users know why we make the decisions we do.

Totally agree with you Heron. It’s not so much the charging bit I’m angry about, but the absolutely deplorable way they have treated their customers in this. To not give anyone any warning and then charge some astronomical price to ‘unlock’ photos is madness. Then to treat ‘third party uploads’ like it is some extra service and not Photobucket’s bread and butter just defies belief. It’s not just this forum but tens of thousands that have used Photobucket for 15+ years who have been affected by this. So many people have put their time & knowledge into informative posts and then for a company to make such a disgusting cash grab out of it is really sad.

Hi guys, tech support here. Unfortunately at this stage I have no real news for you, I was totally blindsided by this as I think were many forum administrators out there. Needless to say Photobucket is getting a lot of hate on their social media etc, so I think it may be wise to see how it plays out over the next 24 hours or so. In the meantime I will keep wracking my brain trying to see if I can think of any way to avoid everyone having to edit all their posts. Sorry all  :-/

Hey! As mentioned I am not a lawyer so absolutely can’t give legal advice, and plus I know very little when it comes to engineering/manufacturing so I can only give you some very broad information. Under consumer law, every product that is sold in Australia comes with a number of guarantees that a retailer/manufacturer cannot exclude by contract etc. One of those is that goods sold must be “fit for purpose” – of course the question is then whether competitive use is beyond the ‘purpose’ and that probably depends on a lot of factors including how the product was advertised, etc – so it could really go either way. There are other sections of the law that might help you, too, like unfair contract terms. If you are covered, you may be entitled not only to the cost of repairs to the product, but also if it damaged anything else when it broke.

I would recommend trying to get some free legal advice about it as they will be much more helpful! If you were in SA I would recommend the University of South Australia’s Legal Advice Clinic (overseen by a qualified lawyer), followed by the Legal Services Commission Legal Helpline, or a Community Legal Centre. If you’re in another state, there’s probably equivalents, but I don’t know them, sorry :) There may even be a dedicated consumer law centre, there are in a few places I think!

Sorry for the slippery lawyer answer, haha, I just really don’t want to give you bad information!

Yeah sorry guys, I can only just wait until Tapatalk release their bug fix which is anyone’s guess really. I’ve been checking every few days but nothing so far. Feel free to send them a message telling them how much you’d appreciate the update if you like, it might hurry them on perhaps?

    Hey everyone –

So Tapatalk say they have found the issue and they will install a fix in their next update. So we will just have to hold on for that, sorry guys!

Hey guys, just so you know, I haven’t forgotten you, Tapatalk’s support is just really slow and trying to get them to understand the problem is proving trying! Unfortunately I have zero control over what they do so there’s nothing I can do from my end really :(

I will continue following up, you could also send them a message to see if they are any more responsive to you!

Tapatalk say that it is working fine for them. They have requested the URL of a thread that is ‘behind’ so they can look further. Do you know one? :)

It’s still happening logged on about an hour ago then just had to log in again

Hi, did you click on ‘remember me’? I have extended the “logged in” period from 14 days to 365 days so I’m not quite sure why it would log you out after an hour. It may be to do with your cache?

I’ll keep an ear out about how it goes for everyone else, unfortunately this is a pretty difficult issue to diagnose because I can’t replicate it on my computer and individual computer settings can have a lot of impact. I will keep trying though!

Hey all, just a quick update so you know I haven’t forgotten! I have forwarded Tapatalk as much information as possible and they are currently looking into the issue for us.

    Hey all,

I will loosen up some settings to try to prevent this from happening, could you please let me know if it keeps being an issue!

    Cheers

Hi! Unfortunately I don’t have much control over Tapatalk, so I have opened a support ticket with them and am waiting to hear back as to what they suggest/can do. I will update you as soon as I hear!

Hi, just wondering if it was just me having issues or everyone. On two computers, I have to log in again every few days, cookies enabled and password saved on both etc. This is the only forum that does it amongst the 10-15 I browse, cheers.

Hi TUFGMH, thanks for alerting  me to this issue! It would be good to know if anyone else is having this problem, as I suspect it may be some security measures getting a bit too big for their boots and affecting non-administrative users (which they shouldn’t). However if others are not having the same issue, I may need to look into a different cause.

Great to see a couple of young people getting stuck in, and also good to see an old car being brought back from the brink with some love and attention. Hopefully after this week end Ringo will have all 1600cc or raw power back too Now I need to go off and some googling on Hiace/LSx swaps……

And drive in a straight line haha.

I will do the more mechanical posts this weekend.

The next step was laying the vinyl flooring, which was suprisingly pretty easy. Going for a retro look, we bought 2 x 3m of this checkered vinyl flooring from Bunnings.

At first our plan was to remove the old vinyl flooring to act as a pattern for cutting this one out. However, the new vinyl was very thin, and so we felt that it would not be very comfortable underfoot. So, instead (as you can see in the picture), we carefully measured out the campervan layout so we could get a rough idea to cut it, and fit it. We left an extra 5cm on each cut for waste. It was then a matter of cutting it out to a rough pattern.

Once it was cut, we had the terrifying job of taking it out to the camper and hoping that we had got it right. We held our breath and… it fit pretty well.

We then painstakingly went through cutting it down to size, a few cms at a time, then a few mm, until it was veeeery close. We then unscrewed the metal trimming, and cut it even finer. We discovered that it was important to cut it short by 1 – 2mm, otherwise if there was an overhang at all, airbubbles formed under the flooring. Once it was cut properly, we screwed the metal trimming back on top of the new flooring. Here is Tom, hard at work:

Once that was done, we had to cut out the hole for the table, which I did and then screwed back on top.

Ringo has had extra seatbelts fitted to the interior, as well as a safe. At first this presented a problem because we had no idea how to cut the vinyl around them. So, we decided that as it would all be under the seat and not seen, we would end the new vinyl about a foot from the edge of the camper. I actually quite liked this, as I’m pretty sentimental and liked the idea of leaving a bit of the original vinyl out. So, we bought some metal skirting (again from my new favourite place, Bunnings), cut it to size and drilled it down with small screws (so as not to accidentally hit anything below). This is what it looked like in the end:

The vinyl says it does not require glue, however there are a couple of small bits that aren’t held down by skirting, which we plan to just secure a bit. We are also going to add some beading around the cupboards to neaten up the finish. However, here he is with his new floor:

Going to be really interesting with the LS swap Georgie

Haha, I wouldn’t back poor old Ringo in a drag race right now, that’s for sure. I reckon we do 0 – 100 in about four and a half minutes.  B-)

So, we decided we’d attack the interior first, since that’s a little more within my comfort zone. The first step was clearing out all the junk that had been left by several owners, some highlights included some suspicious looking leaf-life remnants in a draw (hey, it could have been oregano) and a 1990s ‘Penthouse’ magazine from the glovebox. I think Ringo has lived an interesting life.

Anyway, as I said this is a ‘fun’ project so we’re going a bit out there on the interior, going for a very retro/vintage feel.

First step was painting the interior cabinets. Since they are hooked up to gas and water, I didn’t really want to pull them apart, and since we’re replacing the floor, we figured we’d just paint them while they were inside. Basically we applied a primer, waited for it to dry, and then covered with two paints of a good oil-based paint. Unfortunately, we made a bit of a rookie error which was that we applied the primer with brushes. In retrospect, a roller would have given a much better finish. But hey, you live and learn.

    Had to tape up “RINGO”!

With primer applied. And then some pics once done (but before touchups):

Hi there :) I’ve had a bit of a look for you, it seems like you’ve attempted to upload a few pics that are over the allowed file size for direct uploads. Because of server limits, we can only allow small uploads (<512kb I think) directly, however you are most welcome to use another service like Photobucket or Imgur to upload bigger images. Basically you upload them to that service, and then click the picture icon on this reply box (furthest right, looks like a mountain) and past the URL that Photobucket or Imgur gives you in the ‘source’ box. From there you should be able to see the picture! Let me know if that explanation doesn’t make sense, it’s a bit late here haha.

If this doesn’t help, feel free to post a message over in the support forum and I’ll do some more investigating! I don’t frequent the build threads as much, so that or private message are the quickest way to get me!

    :good:

Okay, I have deleted the better part of 50 spam users. Honestly I’m not sure how they are getting through because there are 3 different technologies implemented to try to discourage them, so I don’t know if they are bots or what.

Nonetheless I’ll try to keep a closer eye and go back through the list this weekend and do a more thorough check. Gary is back on Friday so we can have a chat about whether it’s necessary to revamp our spam filters!

    Thanks for your help!
