Mine developed a bit of front end “funkiness” after maybe 500ks.  Turned out I got all the suspension parts powder coated and with use, the powder coating settled and the bolts went loose.  I think its part of builds like this to every now and then go and check everything is tight.

Yep as Mick says, but also if I did mine again I would plumb it into the water pump.  That way it’s one less visible line.  If you google it there’s info, seems pretty easy to do.

Getting too hot out there now, calling it a day.

That was the best fun I have had out there since doing the nose I reckon.  Took a break from cut, weld, grind, repeat and decided first off to unpack all the windows from the UK, and see what is involved.  Also unpacked their very nice rack and pinion conversion kit, looks really weld made.

Read a bit on various forums and thought the windows were going to be a pita, but really like always slow and steady wins the race.  And my never-ending love of Inox continues…

I think it looks so cool, will slowly tackle all the rest.

Pfft, that’s just a bay window (a nice one though!!)

I love bits!!  All our beautiful polished aluminium windows have arrived from the UK.  So for those that don’t know too much about kombi’s, a bus like mine would have had all fixed windows expect the two rear sied windows which would have oped sideways outwards know as “pop-outs”  The would have been painted body colour.

So we have sort of tee’d off a bit and gone top spec.  So in addition to the front two opening windows called safaris, we have also gone for a safari-style rear hatch window.  All the side windows will also open, the front two on each side pop-outs, but the rear two some very trick mini safaris.  All highly polished.

Had to donate a kidney to afford them, but both Sue and I think it will just absolutely make the look we are going for.

We have gone into lockdown for a few days over here, and today its 37 degrees, but hopefully at some stage will get a chance to fit them.

Shit this is a big job, glad I was so naive at the start or I wouldn’t have tackled it!  Too far in to stop now

Last of the side reinforcements done.  Took the day as I had to turn the bus around to weld up two small rust holes first, then back again and fabricated the top hat section.  Tricky little sucker to get to fit right.  But came up nice, I don’t think there is too much big stuff left inside the cargo area.  Might be time to start a bit of a hit list and cross off the things that are left as I go.

Yea plan is to not go the mirrored look.  I want to try and keep that factory machined finish if possible, then clear coat them.  Will post up how i go.

Been a while since a post on the wagon.  Been driving it quite a bit lately.

So the Kombi is not that far off going for body/paint which will free up some workshop space and time.  Plan on a couple of things for the VL at Christmas.  The rear hatch really lets it down, its just riddled with rust.  So I have scored a very good VH one, and with the spare that came with the car I can make one good one.  There is work “converting it” to VL, but compared to the Kombi that’s piss easy. So decided to buy all new badges for it so it should look mint.  I also scored the “rare as rocking horse shit” strip that goes across the bottom of the tailgate on only the VL  :good:

Also I have always loved the VL Calais mags.  With hubcaps going for +$1,000 I saw set of the mags come up on market place near me for way less than that.  They are actually in really good nick but I am about to drop them into my wheel pace for a full refurb.  I think the white wagon with them should look neat.

Other Christmas job is even with the wiring relay mod for the starter when the cars hot its slow to turn over.  I am thinking its the starter motor itself, so I think that will be on the list.  Also a new ignition barrel.  Happy days.

Well, that’s one engine bay finished.  Shit of a job stuck inside the bay, welding above you, bla bla.  But it’s done.  Pics make it look a little rough up inside but in real life it’s fine, especially for an area you literally will never see.  Coming to the end of the 3-week slog on it.  Super happy with the progress so far.

Sorry IJ, hit the wrong button.  No, I didn’t write that clearly.  Mine is a 60 with dual taillights.  When you buy the replacement panels they only stamp one, then if you have a 60 like mine you have to cut them in.  So its original for the bus/year.

I agree, what’s the old saying, Holden makes the best guard vents, Ford does the best bonnets.  Like it!!
