^cheers mate, tomorrow I am going to make the decision.  Looks like everything its a bit of a compomise. I am leaning toward the nitto as a good compromise between $$ and grip. Pretty sure they won’t be the last set i buy so will get a chance to try more.

Right, well looks like my local tyre dealer (not a lot of choice in little old Gawler) doesn’t have much of a range to choose from when it comes to semi slicks.  In fact I am pretty sure they don’t really sell too many up in my neck of the woods.

They are though happy to fit and align tyres if I supply them though.  So question is has anyone had any experience buying tyres on line, and if so who to go through.  Or is that a bad idea?

What you need to be very carful of many of the online sellers they sell tires cheap. But they are old stock you need to ask the year of manufacture. They will try and tell you that have been stored out of light etc, but that’s not relevant the rubber does deteriorate and they do have a age limit.

Yep found that out before with  the first set I bought online that the rears were so out of balance, pretty obvious they were seconds.  Thats why I wanted to go to someone reputable.

I’d try Gordon Leven Motorsport Tyres

Cheers will try and give them a call tomorrow.

Have bought tyres online from St George Tyres and just recently from Tempe Tyres. No issues, delivered in a couple of days.I always ask the date of manufacture or some sites will have it displayed.Saved $180.00 a tyre on the Kumho KU39 from Tempe(less fitting& balancing).St George usually has a good range of Toyo R888 semi slicks at good prices.

On a side note the KU39 has really got some grip.Full throttle acceleration in second gear and no wheel spin once the full 18 psi hits(520rwhp xr6 turbo ute). The Yokohama Advan sports would break loose around 3000rpm ,but they were getting on.

    Good luck with the purchase.

So got the new tyres today, went for the Kumho’s. Bloody drizzly rain today so cant really try out the grip. When i drove it into the shed gave it a bit of a look over, have to say I reckon its there, have given it quite a bit of stick in the least few runs, I can’t fault it. Living the dream with it so far :good:

Its nice when you feel like you have the car sorted and you can just get in a drive it. For a while they seem to just absorb so much money and time doing and redoing things

Yea so true.  I mean there is still a couple of small scratches I would like to get fixed eventually.  Also I am not totally convinced the crankcase breather set up is right, I had to make it closed loop to pass emissions, but trouble is that doesn’t take into account it sitting on 7,000 rpm making 600 plus but that’s just a detail.  But yes it is 100% to the stage where I can get in, start it, warm it up then drive it as long or as hard as I want then put it away.  I am not lying its a bloody great feeling after such a journey building it, puts a smile on my face every time I drive it anywhere.  :good:

Went through the same thing with the Catch can on mine Gary, came up with a design that works fine now… blew the rear main at one point…
