Isn’t the 4L80e basically the electronic over-driven version of the T400?

yeah pretty much what I can tell so far. Wonder if it suffers the same issues with as the t700 and the 4l60e where they destroy 4th when it engages at WOT?????

I don’t think they’re as pathetic as a t700 or 4l60 cav, they were originally used in the big yank trucks and people movers so aswell as handling a fair amount of power they were used in some pretty heavy vehicles aswell, think h1 hummers and silverados, so if you’re putting it into something as featherweight in comparison as our commodores I don’t think they’ll have to much trouble even with bulk power, just like the t400 and glides you can buy all heavy duty parts and build them as strong as you need

I doubt it. As said elsewhere, the 400 was used in all the heavy stuff and should be tough as nails.  Standard sedan type vehicles got the 350 which is fairly good too but not enough for your blown donk.

Talk to HQ368 on the AV8 forum.  He knows his transmissions.

Not sure if you watch the Sloppy Mechanics channel, but Matt is running a dead stock 4L80e with a Transgo shift kit the only mod with 1075rwhp.

He claims to have never used anything other than stock OEM high km trans with a shift kit on any of his builds (multiple turbo LS combos over 700rwhp).

So my tuff mount xmember rocked up today and I went and purchased my rubber trans mount. All up $180. So not too shabby.

Hopefully get my extension housing tomorrow then I can boot in box and box the tubs.

Also finaihed drilling the holes for the shifter. 5mm stainless is a PITA.

But it’s done and bolted in. Just needs wiring and cable setup. But it’s 80% done. The hard part at least.

Had a play last night. Mate come over and helped me get the guards back on.

I pulled all the wiring back into the bay as now it’s going to be place under steering wheel.

Ill have to notch the reo on the bumper to get that back in as it’s touching the W2A HX.

Also put all the interior plastics back in. Naturally I have 3 extra screw left over hahah fml

Not enough pics on this thread…  A 4L80 is a great choice if you want overdrive.  It uses alot of the internals of the 400 so that’s why its described as a 400 with overdrive totally different to 60/65.  But this thing is pretty much a race car for the street isn’t it?  Do you really need o/d, otherwise you are carrying weight for nothing.

Will get snaps when bumper is back on which should be later.

It will be driven on the street a lot. Going Od i can then step up to a 4.11resr ratio which will help racing.

Got the box in before the footy

T400 vs Powerglide comparison. Size wise is drastically bigger, a lot heavier and will take more HP to spin, but ultimately will make the car faster down the track which is what it’s all about

Box in with Tuff Mount bracket and factory rubber mount.

Shifter all bolted in. Plastics all in and adjusted to their appropriate places. Just need to get a leather boot cover made

Also got a chance to align the engine and have everything sitting correctly. Now I can send it off the the fabricator and get some goodies made. 👌👌👌👌

Thoise tuff/crs trans mounts they’re basically done to suit trans combinations yes?

th400 is good choice more vfm for the abuse they’ll take…seen 10.0sec tubbed vk do repeated transbrake skids on street, most fun ever.

When does this return with fat bum mods? 28×10?

Yeah they have different mounts to suit different combinations.

Bolted striaght up. 0 issue s box was a pain to get it. Bloody tight in there.

I just want a bullet proof box. Don’t wanna have to build it twice.

I’ll call tomorrow and book it in. When??? I got no idea.

Will be aiming to fit 275 radials. that’s similar to 28×10? I think lol.

I agree. that’s why I ditched the one that came with my kit and used OE.  Flimsy and ugly imo.

My interia doesnt come out any more

exspecially the dash facia since I sica flexed it in after it fell out onto me at 7000rpm from a 2nd to 3rd gear change half way down the drag strip then this dam 3 tonne v8 patrol come past me because I’m trying to hold my dash up so it didn’t rip my mechanical oil pressure gauge out

should probley look at getting a new one some day soon but the sica is working great lol

    does anyone know if a 4l80e fits in a Vn-vs tunnel ?

Know in the VE they fit but not sure on earlier models

That sounds like an experience having the dash facia flying out at you when you’re into it manta, the 4l80 is literally only 2-3″ longer and there’s no difference in width or height to the t400 except what looks like a box added onto the side at the rear which still shouldn’t be a problem to fit in a 2nd gen, we have a few at work and when I got my t400 buil I sat the side by side and couldn’t believe how similar they are to each other, the boss just finished building another 4l80, this time reverse pattern full manual trans braked for an 800hp turbo ls2 rock crawler patrol/hilux
