Thought I’d start a thread for anyone to show off any photography skills they may have.

Can also use the thread to ask any questions, discuss techniques, lighting, post processing etc etc.

I’ll upload some of my own work this arvo.

    ok first question

    Motorsport events ie the racetrack
I want to shoot cars in action on the track
What sort of settings should I use to capture a clear photo of the car, but at the same time ensure the background and wheels are blurred so it looks like the car is moving rather than stationary.

Fast shutter speed of course will give me a great still, but the wheels will also appear stationary as will the background. Aperture settings maybe ?

I usually shoot at around 1/60 – 1/80th of a second to get a decent amount of motion blur. F stop around 8-12 to get the whole car sharp. And ISO depends on the light at the time.

Hardest part of panning shots is getting the car in focus. If you have an entry level camera the auto focus can struggle to focus quickly.

Shoot in continuous mode for best results.

Shutter priority is probably the best mode to shoot in to begin with, rather than full manual. However SP mode usually drops the F stop quite low, meaning it’s difficult to get the whole car in focus.

This was shot at 1/80, f 5.0, iso 100, shutter priority.

that’s the sort of shot I was going for thanks
I haven’t got an SLR (didn’t want SLR) but have a good Canon ‘bridge’ camera with fairly much all the settings of a SLR. So will have a go with those settings as a starting point and see how it goes.

I use to travel the Central QLD Moto-X Circuit for a few years doing photography at events and also head out to private tracks, the beach etc and get photos, but i recently sold all my gear to focus on my kids and thier Moto-X

These are 2 brothers, they rarely race each other these days due to job committments, i had a goal that i wanted a photo of them together and they were over the moon when they seen this.

The reason i sold all my gear, have upgraded the PW50 to a 2015 KTM 50SX mini now for him and he loves it
