All the baily channels replaced, and 3 out of the 4 windows back in.

Got the rear boot panel back from James, my painter, did an awsome job of re spraying it, matches perfectly :good:

Made a new parcel shelf to fit around rollcage, came out pretty nice.

    Added some badges

picked up a set of VZ HSV brakes ( should be enough to stop the beast)

    Painted and skimmed discs

    Fill those 20s much better

Started modding the rear brakes to take the VZ HSV callipers and rotors.

First up ground the pad material off the existing handbrake shoes.

Then bought a new pair of vx/vy hand brake shoes, as you can see they are a very neat fit over the original VK shoes.

Tig welded the VX shoes to the VK shoes, then cut the VX shoes to form two seperate shoes, which are now the correct size for the VZ handbrake drums

Welded up the calliper mount holes in the VK backing plates , as the VT-VZ calliper mounts are closer together.

Got some old wheel nuts as they are the same thread as the calliper mounting bolts ,(12 x 1.5mm) and tall enough to allow a good amount of thread to secure the callipers.I then turned most of the taper off the nuts, and a 5mm step (width of backing plate) 16mm in diameter.

Then marked the hole centres for the callipers, and drilled 16mm holes with a step drill.

Next I’ll tig weld the nuts in place on the backing plate

Thats a different way to do the hand brake, haven’t seen it done like that before, means you can keep the original discs?  Plates look cool :good:

I Coppied the idea from a post on the Calais Turbo forum, with the modified handbrake shoes you can run any VT-VZ rear discs and same with callipers once the backing plates are re-drilled to suit.

With a VY booster /master cylinder I should end up with a pretty good brake combo (more than enough for the weight of the car) for around $1000.

VL must be different to a VR/S.  On mine the VT-Z whole backing plate, handbrake mechanism etc is a bolt on swap.  The 4 bolts that hold it all on are the same spacing, you unbolt it all and just swap it.  They must have changed it when the went IRS from the live I guess.

No the VT-VZ backing plates won’t fit the early girls, only the VS IRS.

Finished fitting the rear brakes, tigged the retaining nuts inside and out.

Had to clearance the backing plate slightly to clear the calliper, and moddefied the brake hose retainer to take the VZ hoses.

Also required 3mm Washers between the backing plate and callipers to centre them correctly on the discs.

    Job done !!

Cleaned the dust off and pushed her outside for a few pics B-)

Next job is to replace the intank pump with something that will keep up with the surge tank and E85 compatable. Then install the  fuel tank.

I am really loving your attention to detail and engineering.  Top work on welding the nuts so neatly for example, to me its those little details that make all the difference.  :good:   :good:

Pierberg make a low pressure high volume intake pump. It’s designed for surge setups.

Does the fuel pump have to be in-tank?  If not these are boss for a surge tank pump.  I have one on mine, cheap, tiny, reliable.  https://www.holley.com/products/fuel_systems/fuel_pumps_regulators_and_filters/fuel_pumps/carbureted_fuel_pumps/carbureted_electric_fuel_pumps/parts/12-428

Man that purple really pops! Also great work on the rear brakes. It’s engineering like that, that really sets builds apart from all the others going around.
