Bought this last weekend, dirt cheap:

    The good:

    Fresh paint

    Drives

    The bad:

    Super awesome interior

I’m sure I’ll find more as I get it ready for club reg

I was building a VB that was going to get an LS conversion, my wife saw me pull the windscreens out of the VB and see the  rust in the frames and me contemplating how much paint and panel would cost, she found this on Facebook and teed up with the guy for me to have a look,  then bought it home.

    Since added VZ SS wheels

    The plan:

    Club reg and use it

Was originally going to go LS, but thinking of just strapping a turbo on the side and seeing how long it will hold together

I meant in general lol. They look great in black. There was A sedan on SC forum back in the day. Was black also. Looked sinister.

Rwc done today, just needed a windscreen, rear brake shoes and wheel cylinders.

Got it running better, found a loom for the auto not plugged in, reset ignition timing and replaced the air flow meter, fixed a couple of dash lights that weren’t working.

Dropped my forms off at my car club for club rego.

    Nearly ready to use!

The worst thing about not getting it painted myself is that when the screen was removed to be replaced, found a heap of rust around the frame :( The screen obviously wasn’t pulled out to paint it.

I have to replace the head lining anyway to something not as loud so will get the rust fixed at the same time later in the year

Haha, yea the headlining is going, as is the rest of the interior.

I’m going to get it redone in grey, might do leather seats, but the black and flames do nothing for me.

Pulled the rocker cover off today and painted it:

    Before:

    After:

    Used heat resistant wrinkle paint

Thanks, I thought I had put it on wrong until I got a bit of heat into it.

It was really glossy, but once it dried out it turned matte and started going wrinkly

    Heres a close up:

And here it is back together

Pulled all the new suspension out of the VB and swapped it into the VL on Sunday just gone.

The front is all Nolathane with lowered King springs and Monroes

The rear is all Nolathane with lowered Sedan King springs and adjustable panhard, Shocks are different sedan to wagon so will need to source some new ones.

Just need to do inner and outer tie rod ends now and I can get it aligned, Still waiting on my forms to come back from my car club but I can just about taste rego now :yahoo:

I have a question re the club rego, as I am not sure we have the same thing here in SA.  How does a relatively modern car like this one get it?  I assumed it was only for old restored cars?  Are there restrictions on where and how often you can drive it?

In Victoria, you can get Club registration on any vehicle that is more than 25 years old, the restrictions that I have is I can only drive 90 days per year and I must fill out a logbook. It’s more like a permit than rego

That’s pretty good really, most cruisers wouldn’t go out 90 days in a year, I know mine wouldn’t.

We can’t get it, it sucks. The only thing we have that is close is for standard cars like Kingswoods, Monaros older Falcons, Camaro, Mustangs etc. They have to remain factory (not even extractors) and you have to be part of a club. My dad has it on his HQ, wish I could get it for mine.

Cars over 30 years old..must be member of club 12 months & car relatively standard,’some’ period mods allowed was last I read for NSW.

We also got ‘street machine’ rego trial. At moment it’s really club rego cars with 60 drive days.

Unfortunately not allowing ‘modified’ cars or even engineered cars to do it yet despite it being the original intention & way behind start date.

Fingers crossed it eventuates…moreso something the same between states!!!!!

Not sure I want commonality between states, if we did, we would end up with your dumb ass weight/vs capacity laws, then no 454ci VR for us…

Hey we got some stupid rules back…in past if engineered 454 torana ran out of rego it wasnt allowed back on the road.

Seems now monster engined or tubbed cars engineered in past can be re-registered.

Also turbo factory sized engines apparently….like early 5.0 commodores & toranas

Still comes down to luck on day of inspection then trip  rta or whatever amalgamated thing they got in nsw now.
